How to Use the LIFE Model of Social Media Communication

Boy, are we glad your back. We missed you and hope you'll return often.

Examples of Social Media applications are Google Groups (reference, social networking), Wikipedia (reference), MySpace (social networking), Facebook (social networking), Last.fm (personal music), YouTube (social networking and video sharing), Second Life (virtual reality), Flickr (photo sharing), Twitter (social networking and microblogging) and other microblogs for example Jaiku and Pownce. Numerous of these social media services can be integrated via social network aggregation platforms like Mybloglog and Plaxo.

Social networks enable you to post videos, articles, podcasts, Blogs, bookmarks, links, profiles and comments. It's quite effortless to share your message or marketing data through the use of these social websites. Content is nonetheless still king and your message needs to be of interest to the readers so that you can spread it around.

And now on to the article

Social Media and Social Marketing provides such an excellent platform to build a strong online presence.

But do you know what the biggest question I get from beginning Social Marketers might be?

Here it is: “So what do I put in there, what do I say?”

In answer to that very frequently asked question I created the LIFE Model of Social Marketing Communication. Let’s take a closer look at this model and how to use it in your online or offline business.

The LIFE Model of Social Marketing Communication

Links – There are two kinds of links that I most often use on Social Media platforms. The first is a link to something I have found interesting or funny. It might be someone else’s article that I found useful or a video that got me laughing. Sharing links that are not your own demonstrates that you are not just out to market to people, you are interested in joining in the conversation.

The second type of link you can use is one of your own links. You can send someone to one of your videos on YouTube, invite someone to read one of your articles, or send them to an opt-in page to get more good information from you in exchange for their email address.

Information – Share information about your niche. You can do it in 140 characters as a time on Twitter or in a longer Facebook Fan Page update. You can create small samples of info from your own experience or include quotes from your article. For example, one I often use is “an article a day keeps recession away.” Include a link if you want and if you have room, but usually I just want to give out samples of good information that spread good will.

Fun – You don’t have to be a serious marketer all the time. In fact, it’s better if you let some of your personality and life show. Mention a movie you just saw and what you did or didn’t like. Share something fun you did that day. Don’t broadcast that you are going on vacation though – it’s not wise to let the world know you are not going to be at home.

An example that comes to mind is how friend and colleague Paul Colligan will share what movie his daughters have picked for movie night. Sometimes he is happy with the choice, sometimes he cringes. It all makes him look like a real live approachable human being.

Events – Is there an online or offline event you are going to attend? Invite others. Is there an online or offline event you are going to be hosting? You can leverage the Social Marketing platforms to invite others to your events. I’ve filled up teleseminars using just Twitter and Facebook.

Your 7 Step Twitter Blueprint For a Massive Online Presence (Quickly & Easily Too)

Examples of Social Media applications are Google Groups (reference, social networking), Wikipedia (reference), MySpace (social networking), Facebook (social networking), Last.fm (personal music), YouTube (social networking and video sharing), Second Life (virtual reality), Flickr (photo sharing), Twitter (social networking and microblogging) and other microblogs for instance Jaiku and Pownce. A lot of of these Social Media services might be integrated via social network aggregation platforms like Mybloglog and Plaxo.

Social networks permit you to post videos, articles, podcasts, Blogs, bookmarks, links, profiles and comments. It is really simple to share your message or marketing facts through the use of these social websites. Content is even so still king and your message needs to be of interest to the readers in order to spread it around.

If your ready, here is the article

Social Marketing is a great strategy for quickly and easily building your Online Visibility. Let’s take a look at a 7 step blueprint for increasing your Online Visibility with Twitter.

1) Your name – While you might set up additional accounts at some point in the future, you want to start by securing your own name first. This is for at least two good reasons: 1) name recognition and online visibility, and 2) the focus of your business may change over time, but your name is much less likely to change.

2) Your link – On your Twitter profile you get to include a link to one of your web sites. Send folks to your main hub, which should be your WordPress blog. From your blog you can mention anything and send your visitors anywhere.

3) Your bio – This is where most beginners mess it up by talking all about themselves. Nope. Focus on your prospect. Include in your bio the benefits prospects will receive by following you. Remember, your bio is not about you.

4) Your conversation – Too many people conduct a monologue on Twitter that is “all about them.” This is a quick way to be ignored. Have conversations with your followers. When they tweet you, tweet them back. Sounds so simple, but so many do not do it. A side benefit of having conversations on Twitter is that you basically earn the right to market and be listened to.

5) Your info – You can share helpful snippets of information in 140 characters or less. Share tips and tools from your area of expertise. The good news is that you really can’t give away the store in 140 characters or less. An example of one “info tweet” I use is: “An article a day keeps recession away.”

6) Your links – One of the beautiful things about Twitter is that it is, at the time of this writing, the number 12 most trafficked web site in the world. And once that traffic finds you, then you get to direct it where you want it to go. This is incredibly powerful. Invite your followers to your blog, other Social Marketing platforms (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and your opt-in pages.

7) Your offers – I hear it all the time: “You can’t make money on Twitter” “You shouldn’t market or make offers on Twitter.” The reality is that the folks who tell you this are wrong, they are your competition, and this is a good thing. Let these folks continue to believe these wrong things, while you make offers and money on Twitter.

Bonus Tip – Get started. Now. And now I would like to invite you to simply watch more about how I do it by visiting my Twitter profile at http://JeffonTwitter.com.

I look forward to seeing you over there…

The Top 7 Reasons to Create Your Facebook Fan Page Now

Social Media is an umbrella term that defines the a variety of activities that integrate technology, social interaction, and the construction of words, pictures, videos and audio. This interaction, and also the manner in which details is presented, depends on the varied perspectives and “building” of shared meaning among communities, as people share their stories, and understandings.

Social networks permit you to post videos, articles, podcasts, Blogs, bookmarks, links, profiles and comments. It's extremely easy to share your message or marketing information through the use of these social sites. Content is even so still king and your message needs to be of interest to the readers in order to spread it around.

And now on to the article

If you don’t have a Facebook Fan Page you are simply leaving traffic and profits on the table. To encourage you to take action and create one today, here are the current top 7 reasons to get one now.

1) Traffic – Currently Facebook is the #2 most trafficked website in the world, second only to Google. The first rule of traffic I learned on the Internet is to not chase after traffic. Find out where the traffic is going and get in front of it. Again, the number 2 website in the world in terms of traffic.

2) 5000 vs. Unlimited – When you have just a Facebook Profile you are limited to only 5000 followers. While that may seem out of reach to you at the moment, as you grow you are going to want to have more room. A great benefit of a Fan Page is you can have an unlimited number of fans and followers.

3) You can market – On your profile page you are discouraged from marketing. In fact, do it too much and you account can be suspended. On your Fan Page you are allowed to and even encouraged to market. Be sure you earn the right to market though by providing great information and connections.

4) Like a blog but better – A Fan Page is like a blog only better. While there are several features that I like better than a blog, my favorite is the immediacy with which followers and fans can respond to your updates and you can connect and interact.

5) Frequency of communication – Email your list more than once a day and you will get subscribers unsubscribing in droves. Update your Fan Page 2 – 3 times a day and not only do you not get unsubscribes, you get more followers as your updates show up in the communication stream of your followers, and others become interested in your message.

6) Build your list – I encourage my students and members to do two things on their Fan Page: 1) Include an opt-in box on the side bar, and 2) Use your updates to invite people to your other opt-in pages to get more good stuff from you. By the way, your Fan Page fans and followers are a list too!

7) Audio & Video – You can also include Audio and Video messages as well. This is a wise thing to do, as it turns your page into a multi-media site that communicates at many levels.

Google launches Buzz API, expected to increase user adoption for Social Media platform

Published May 21, 2010

Though the buzz about Google Buzz has died down since it was first released, the digital marketing community is now viewing the social networking feature with renewed interest as Google announced this week the launch of its API.

The new API will allow developers to integrate Buzz with a variety of other platforms and applications. TweetDeck and Seesmic have already added Google Buzz integration, along with Boxee and several other applications.

“The Google Buzz API, a member of the Google Code Labs, is very much a work in progress – we intend to continue to iterate out in the open as we go along – and we hope the features we are making available today will help inspire developers and provide a solid foundation for new applications to be built,” Google announced in its code blog.

Mashable notes that Buzz’s user base is expected to experience faster growth thanks to this API launch, though digital marketing professionals are advised to watch the development closely to assess Buzz’s value as a Social Media platform.
