How Fast Can You Go? Watch Out For Google’s Speed Trap!

Social Media is an umbrella term that defines the various activities that integrate technology, social interaction, and the construction of words, pictures, videos and audio. This interaction, and also the manner in which information is presented, depends on the varied perspectives and “building” of shared meaning among communities, as folks share their stories, and understandings.

It is very effortless to share your message or marketing information via the use of these social sites. Content is nevertheless still king and your message needs to be of interest to the readers in order to spread it around.

And now on to the article

I just read a post about Google adding a new metric to there search robots and the keyword is “SPEED”.
Yup. Google wants more speed on your site so that when a customer or browser comes to your site it won’t take too long to load. How long is TOO long? That’s a good question.

Matt Cutts said:

“Faster sites create happy users, and our internal studies [show] that when a site responds slowly, visitors spend less time there,” they wrote.

“But faster sites don’t just improve user experience; recent data shows that improving site speed also reduces operating costs.

“Like us, our users place a lot of value in speed. That’s why we’ve decided to take site speed into account in our search rankings.”

Matt Cutts is talking about the problem only being with 1% of the sites that they search, but even at that, 1% of a billion sites is what, ten million?

Where do you stand with your score? Are you in the fast zone or are you cranking along at a pace only known to cave men. Whoops, I hope I didn’t hurt anybodies feelings.

Now what we have to do is subscribe to Google’s Webmasters Tools to get an idea of where we stand with the required minimum speed. I haven’t done it yet but I assume that those of us that care about how Big G treats us will jump through the required hoops to keep everybody happy.

With the exception of being told that there is something that I have to do, I do understand the Need For Speed. There is a number of time through out the day that I sit looking at my screen, waiting for the little green line to make it from left to right so that the site will load. Sometimes you think it’s stopped and it’s not going to move and then it takes off real fast and loads. Other times it takes several times banking on the enter key before the green line will keep going. I’ve wondered for some time now how much good does it do to hit the keys harder? Is it kind of like us old guys that can’t hear too well? If you yell into our ear we kind of come to life for a min. or less?

Anyway I’m looking at learning how to speed things up a little around here.

Don’t tell my wife though. She couldn’t take it. 30 years of me going minimum speed and even though she doesn’t like it she’s used to it.

Lets see, Matt Cutts or my wife? My wife or Matt Cutts? Hummm? Matt Cutts may be providing supper, but it wouldn’t taste too good with out my wife cooking it. I think that’s pretty obvious. Don’t you?

Can you build a WordPress Website in a flash? There no right or wrong answer to this question but as I read in Mark Hansen’s blog “The Niche Store Builder” this morning, I’m thinking that I’m in the 20+ hrs. category.

His list of about 20 things to do to build a WordPress site included everything from niche research, searching for a domain name, to writing content for 4 or more articles to post.

His point is to work from a Check list or task list for as long as it takes you to automate the process. In other word to make it a habit. You need to set up a list of things that you want to do and/or out source and get to work.

I found a few task’s on the list that I don’t do, or I have given a different name to that I want to research more to see the validity of. I’m sure that what ever Mark has on his list is valid as well as needed to make the best site going. He’s been doing this for a lot longer than I have.

He brought up another good point when he said that he is doing this with his wife. She has just gotten started building websites in the last couple of years. (As I understand it anyway) Now the two of them are working together on this project and I’m sure that helps when you have two or more helping hands, each with there own special talents.

I know many people have presented this topic before and many will do it again but I think Mark’s ideas are good and I’m looking forward to more information.
